Muharib Abdul-Latif al-Jubouri, the information minister for Iraq's Al-Qaeda cell was killed by US forces this week. al-Jubouri was killed when he refused detention in an operation several miles west of the Taji air base. al-Jabouri was wanted in connection with numerous high profile kidnappings of Western citizens, including Jill Carroll from the Science Monitor Reporter and Tom Fox who was later found shot to death.
This is not to be confused with reports that Abu Ayyub al-Masri, the leader of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, was killed by insurgent fighting. This information has still not been confirmed by US intelligence.
It appears Mr. Reid spoke at just the opportune time. Evidence has been mounting the previous two weeks that we are in-deed winning. As high level Al-Qaeda operative and insurgents are destroyed we must continue providing our troops with the resources they need to find and kill the enemy. Now is obviously not the time to turn tail and run.
