Fierce in-fighting bordering on civil war erupted in the Gaza Strip four days ago. Hamas and Fatah, both members of the Palestinian unity government, are now fighting each other. Over the past four days, at least 40 people have been killed and scores more wounded. Hamas launched rocket attacks into Israel in an attempt to draw Israel into the in-fighting. This would give the Palestinians a common enemy which would unite them. Israelis retaliated with air strikes against militant targets.
Israel Prime Minister Ehud Olmert stated, "Israel is not going to be dragged into the Gaza Strip the way that Hamas wants. We will choose the time, the place to respond and we will protect our citizens".
This is an on-going issue and further proof that we cannot deal with terrorists. Land for peace deals will not work and the US cannot and must not attempt to broker deals with evil men who seek the destruction of Israel. If the Palestinians cannot keep peace between themselves, how can we expect them to keep piece with a Western nation?
We must help protect Israel and other democracies in the Middle East and not involve ourselves in terrorists in-fighting. If the time comes where we must intervene to defend our allies then we should bring it with violence of action. If our actions are not needed then lets sit back and watch themselves kill each other.
