2007 Six Day War

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the Six Day War, in which Israel was attacked by the United Arab Forces. The UAF consisted of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, etc. Many events led to a pre-emptive Israeli attack on Egypt which initiated the war, however, these events were actions taken by the Arab community to, in effect, lure Israel into war. These events included diverting a major percentage of the Israeli water supply and blockading the Straits of Tiran from Israeli flag ships. At the end of the war, Israel had won and gained control of Eastern Jerusalem, the Sinai Peninsula, the West Bank and the Golan Heights. The Arab community has maintained to this day that this is the reason for constant conflict in the region.

Today Israel, and in effect the US, finds itself in a similar situation to that of the events that led to the Six Day War. For example, in the days before the war began, Egyptian President, Abdel Nasser stated, "If Israel embarks on, an aggression against Syria or Egypt, the battle against Israel will be a general one and not confined to one spot on the Syrian or Egyptian borders. The battle will be a general one and our basic objective will be to destroy Israel." This past Sunday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stated, With God's help, the countdown button for the destruction of the Zionist regime has been pushed by the hands of the children of Lebanon and Palestine". He further stated, "By God's will, we will witness the destruction of this regime in the near future".

Ahmadinejad stated that if Israel enters into another war with Hamas, Hezbollah or any other Islamic entity in the region, that Iran and other radical Islamic nations will destroy Israel. Replace some of the characters involved and the story is exactly the same. There will never be peace in the Middle East as long as Israel stands.

Israel is a sovereign nation with the right to exists. It is under attack from Islamic and Arab radicals who seeks its undeniable destruction. We must continue to support Israel and take a stand against the rogue Arab nations. It is time for the US to stop calling for land for peace deals and stand behind Israel when it decides that a pre-emptive strike on an enemy nation is justified.
